Heart, Stroke and Vascular Health

HealthInsite's Heart, Stroke and Vascular Disease  topic area covers all diseases of the heart and blood vessels, including coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure and peripheral vascular disease. These are mainly caused by a damaged blood supply to the heart, brain and legs, and share a number of risk factors.

The main underlying problem is atherosclerosis, a process that clogs blood-supply vessels with deposits of fat, cholesterol and other substances. It is most serious when it affects the blood supply to the heart, causing angina or heart attack, or to the brain, which can lead to a stroke.
